This review is for the scones...I haven't eaten a meal here, but the scones are out-of-this-world. I am a bit of a pastry fiend, and search coffee shops high and low for the perfect treat. These scones - I've had ginger-pear and chocolate cherry - are large and fluffy, not like the muffin-like "scones" you get at Espresso Royale or Starbucks. Pastry Peddler on Packard comes in second place, but this place is just AMAZING. Re-route your morning bike commute and swing by here on your way to campus. :)

Decent coffee and a cute facade but has very little seating and it is located across from a school so it should be avoided during pick up/drop off times. Some of the pastries and cookies are pretty good but the cakes are awful- slabs of overly sweet yet flavorless sponges slathered under thick cement frosting. The packaged soups and sandwiches in the freezer are tasty but overpriced. Unfortunately I never had the chance to eat brunch here though the menu always looked intriguing.

Jefferson Market is one of the coolest places I found while in Ann Arbor. It's a combination market and take-out restaurant, selling nifty toys, trinkets, a variety of drinks, and awesome sweet potato fries. Their food is kind of greasy, the service is somewhat slow, and the ordering process can be a little confusing. Tucked away in the Old West Side, the place has a lot of character and personality. Rumor has it that it is up for sale. I hope the new owners keep the same atmosphere.

This place is cute. The people that work there are nice. It's really close to my house. They sell fun gifts and candy and such. I had a grilled cheese there that was o.k. but fairly expensive, I assume because they used...drumroll........ZINGERMAN'S BREAD!!! (which is apparently baked in a golden oven by virgins...or something, c'mon people it's not THAT great!?) I also noticed that their Chicago-style hot dog was $6.50!!! I think I saw something on the menu about charging extra for sport peppers? (blasphemy).

One of my favorite things about Ann Arbor. I haven't been here since the format changed, but it was one of the best things about living in the OWS. Coffee, pastries, the occasional ice cream treat on a hot summer day, or takeout dinner when I didn't feel like cooking. The menu rotates regularly, and I love when the pastry chef whips up special treats that aren't usually on the menu. Jefferson Market has actual charm and personality to it, unlike many places on Main Street. I miss this place!

This brick whole-in-the-wall has got grit, gall and gumption. Come here for your daily dose of strong coffee, tasty sandwiches, rubber chickens and Bush-bashing merch. Across from a local elementary school, this soda-shop style storefront is packed floor-to-ceiling with toys of all kinds -- cornballs, rubber fairies, you name it. There's the requisite candy corner to feed the kids' sugar addiction, and for parents, there are creative, delicious baked goods for small to large appetites. Liberal intellectual gourmet with a wacky sense of humor and a creative eye? This little joint was made for you.

I have a friend who loves this place -- so it's on my short list of what to try next or at least soon!

This place does have a front part that's a market of some sort, but I've never looked at it closely enough to know if it qualifies as a grocery, or a dry goods store, or what. The interesting part is in the back. About half of the building's floor space is taken up by a kitchen. They only have a couple of small tables, so most of what they sell is take-out. But this is more like gourmet food than standard take-out. The menu changes often, and they only have a few items on it at any time, but I'd recommend trying them all. Even the salads are good. Soups are excellent. And no entree I've had has been disappointing.

Great food. Fun and funky atmosphere. Perfect for sitting outside on a warm spring day. One of the few places in Ann Arbor that actually lives up to the hype.

I heard many good things about Jefferson Market, so finally stopped by for brunch. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are friendly. I ordered eggs over-medium, hashbrowns and a Hawaiian Coffee. My friend ordered a pancake stack and a side of bacon. Everything was cooked to satisfaction-- the thick-cut bacon and Hawaiian Coffee were amazing!! The staff wouldn't tell us the brand of bacon they use, but this would definitely gain approval from any true bacon-lover! The Hawaiian Coffee was also fantastic--there was a nice coffee-sweet balance. The whipped cream topping tasted very fresh and was a nice addition to the overall drink. Definitely planning on coming back again!

I've been here for breakfast and also for coffee. Very disappointing. The breakfast was so mediocre that my family went for a second breakfast later that morning to erase this breakfast from our minds. Recently went for coffee/lunch. At 11:30, there were no salads ready made so the person at the store said - nope no salads - really? The sandwiches looked overpriced and wrapped in saran. The kicker was getting a chocolate coffee which consisted of Hershey's syrup with coffee. Really? A small cute cafe can and should do way better than this.

Oh my god, Sunday brunch here is amiazing. The atmosphere and cozy and its tough to beat a brunch experience here sitting on their patio. They also serve coffee and have wi-fi here; it's a great spot to set up to do some reading/relaxing and not nearly as full as a place like sweetwaters.

I hate to be one of those people that laments the good old days, but Jefferson Market is no where close to what it once was. The last time I went in, I ordered a desert to go. The woman ringing me up, who I believe was the owner, literally sneezed into a tissue and wiped her nose, and then didn't wash her hands before getting my food. It was one of the strangest experiences I've had in a restaurant. I wasn't honestly that worried about catching something, but the fact that there was no attempt to at least feign basic food safety was bizarre. The woman didn't smile either. The place just felt like the life had been sucked out of it.

Brunch for two for around $20 in Ann Arbor? I had the Mt Rushmore scramble and my husband had the pancakes with mixed berries and both were very tasty and a good price. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would probably be here a lot. We still need to return to try their cakes and sandwiches. The first time that we came here we didn't stay because there were no seats. It was also winter and it seemed like it would not be very warm.

Came back for brunch again -- they have updated their menu and really stepped up their game. The omelettes are now amazing, and the pancakes are off the chart. Still a little crowded and chilly, but worth it. Get there early.

The place is looking nice but is quite dirty as they throw whatever is on the table on the floor. The food was quite ok but not worth other brunch in a2. my friend liked the pancakes but i wish the waitress could have waited before bringing them as we asked as by the time we ate our plates the whipped cream was completely falling appart

Walking into the booming voice of Edith Piaf on the radio, I knew I'd be right at home. The bright green and yellow cakery is beautifully laid out. There's a long central table in the middle along with 2 and 4-seater tables on the sides, not to mention the bar stools along the wall. The staff greets you warmly from the back where they work diligently on cakes, sandwiches and prep work. Right to the left of the counter are greeting cards, coffee, tea and books for sale. BRING WARM clothing because it is always cold here!! And the Wi-Fi is VERY spotty. I can never log on. The cakes are laid out, but not in the most attractive way. Yes, they show a piece of each cake (which I love because being able to see the interior is the most important part), but there's saran wrap on all which don't make them appear as appetizing. But once I got over that small hiccup, I couldn't decide what I would dive into. Cookies, cakes, breads, pastries.... Drinks -Spiced Coffee (coffee + steeped nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon): I don't taste the spices as much as I thought I would. There's a fresh coffee taste followed by a mixture of spices that are a bit drying. It's fine but certainly not something I'd order again. Soup--weekly soups and daily special soups -Tomato Bisque: oh it's delicious. The perfect consistency and well spiced. I love the bits of tomato throughout. There are times were I find tomato bisques to be too heavy with cream, yet this is perfect. Sandwiches -The Enlightenment (creamy spinach, artichoke, provolone cheese with oven roasted chicken breast grilled on a pretzel bun): The crispy pretzel bun is full of flavor. I love the mix of spinach, artichoke and provolone--it makes for a very creamy and spiced dip. The chicken is grilled nicely (no chalky taste here) and takes in the creaminess of the artichoke "dip." Very nice. +Housemade Seasoned Chips: the perfect mix of crunchy and crispy. These have lots of flavor--mostly salty and are light and airy. -Lewis & Clark (honey ham and cheddar cheese smothered win apple-pear chutney and caramelized onions): hmmm I expected more. While there's a huge portion of honey ham (which is fresh and delicious), the ratio of cheddar cheese is off and not melted enough. The caramelized onions in the apple-pear chutney are freezing cold and distract from the warmed sandwich--not only because of the coldness, but because of their intense sweetness. -Jefferson Clubhouse (chicken salad with crispy bacon, Dijon dressing, provolone cheese, spinach): the chicken salad is bursting with a creamy flavor of garlic, Dijon and bacon bits that add a fabulous saltiness. Desserts -Carrot Cake: I have to say I was VERY underwhelmed. Very. While the cake looks moist, it's really not. And it doesn't even really taste like carrot. It doesn't have much of a taste, actually. Just a slight hint of nutmeg here and there. The frosting is also not that sugary, more just a whipped cream taste. No thank you. -Red Velvet: very dry and lacking in flavor. The frosting is nice, though. -Spiced Apple Compote: while I love the flavor (the spicing is a perfect blend of nutmeg and cinnamon), the cake is a bit dry. The apples throughout have a nice texture and the frosting helps "un"-dry the cake. -Pumpkin Chocolate Bread: wonderfully moist with a great consistency. I can't taste much of the pumpkin but the chocolate is wonderful--especially the chocolate chips throughout which deliver a cooling and refreshing effect. FINAL VERDICT: I love the atmosphere of the place and while nothing makes me feel the need to return (especially the cakes (how sad!!)), everything is tasty enough and full of fresh ingredients.

Came in here for lunch and discovered that they stopped serving sandwiches at 2pm. I popped in about 2:30. Ho Hum! Guess I'll have to get some cake, then! No point in stopping by for nothing! I ordered a slice of yellow cake with raspberries and cherries. The cake was hella moist, really dense and plenty good. The cherries were fresh cherries! Nothing canned, nothing maraschino. Just fresh, dark red cherries. And they were awesome--nestled between two layers of cake and surrounded by buttercream. The next layer had raspberries and they were also fresh, tart and perfect. I didn't even mind getting the seeds in my teeth! The buttercream was not heavy but light and airy and the frosting between layers between had a touch of lemon which I really enjoyed. The slice was also HUGE. A good size to split between two people or to save for a later snack. Because I wanted to sample a few things I went ahead and got a chocolate bon bon too. You know...for science. It was also awesome. Dark chocolate ganache enveloping some bittersweet rich cake. The space is really cute. It's not far from my new house and I could totally see myself working there on an afternoon. I love businesses that are just tucked into the middle of a residential area and this was one of them. I have to admit I thought it would be bigger but I'm really glad to see it's not. SO ADORBS. Also the gal behind the counter was really friendly and apologetic that I couldn't get a sandwich. Trust me girl, I was not sad by any stretch. Although I look forward to trying your other menu items someday soon!

This is a Gem! Nothing beats a historic neighborhood locally owned bakery and cafe. My wife and I both had the Mt. Rushmore plate. It was fresh, healthy and very tasty. I added a wild berry pancake and my wife had a Cherry Scone....baked fresh here daily. Saturday and Sunday Brunch is offered by 10am-1:00pm. If you have not been here, venture out. You will be glad you did!

This place is a joke for breakfast! Unbused tables, blasting music, completely indifferent employees serving food one of the 4th graders from Bach School would do better. Stay away unless you enjoy punishment!

We weren't that excited about having a traditional tiered cake and my husband had the idea to make a cake inspired by a video game he enjoyed, so we ordered an untraditional cake from Jefferson Market for our wedding inspired by the video game Portal. Our cake consisted of two round "portal" cakes, one outlined in orange and the other in blue. Bride and groom figures were formed from fondant, with the legs going into one portal, and the heads and torsos coming out of the other. (This was the only fondant on the cake.) Mary was awesome and they seemed excited to do this nontraditional cake for us. I was slightly worried the fondant figures might not look great, but they came out very cute and we received many compliments. My niece was excited to "eat a piece with the lady". More importantly, it tasted great! We chose a lemon cake with berry filling and it was delicious. I can't wait to order another slice! Also, they offer complimentary tasting when you order cakes with them, which helped us decide on the flavor.

Got their pumpkin chocolate chip bread and it was delicious! Definitely planning on coming back to try their cakes and for brunch. It's very cozy inside so hopefully next time I'll get a chance to sit down and enjoy their food, instead of eating it while walking to Central campus. It was just what I needed after standing in line for an hour to vote...

Yum! Great sandwiches that come with home-made potato chips, awesome coffee and the cake is to die for. Even if you don't have room for a piece of cake after your lunch, get a piece to go.

Absolutely hands-down the best cake in Ann Arbor. Strangely there aren't a lot of dessert places here. Zingerman's has some good cakes, but the ones here are way better. Slices are huge. It's also a good place for brunch, but it can get crowded and their hours are not very long. The very best thing about here, however, is the cake.

I love Jefferson Market's brunch. Their lunch is lackluster because their main weekday business is fancy and absolutely delicious cakes. But let's focus on what's important: Their mouthwatering brunch that tastes like it was cooked by a hybrid of Grandma and a food cart foodie. Their monthly specials are really interesting and fun, and their mainstays (scramble, really fluffy pancakes) are yummy and reilable. The owner is nice and all the staff is very polite, although there is one barista that can be a little edgy and just takes some getting used to (you regulars know what I mean). It's a little neighborhood gem. I like that I can walk there, that I can either chat or read over breakfast, that they have a little public library and that they have a crowd of regulars. This place isn't perfect, I'd say four out of five meals I get there are really good and one falls through the cracks. Also, their prices went up a few months ago. But I just love the idea of it- locally sourced ingredients-- and the mom-and-pop feel. Very unique. Tip: get the bunch on Sundays, not Saturdays. The Sunday cook is usually the one who comes up with the specials and I find the food usually tastier on Sundays.

Cute place. Great sandwiches made with the freshest ingredients. I haven't tried the cakes but after seeing them, you wouldn't have to try too hard to convince me. Tons of character, and in reading the other reviews I haven't seen the left-wing crap plastered all over the place as it apparently was before. This place is a gem and you owe it to yourself to check it out.

A great local joint! Their cake is amazing! If you want a true Ann Arbor experience go to Jefferson Market and drink a Mighty Good Coffee. I'll see you there!
